Akshat Raghuwanshi’s IPL 2026 Debut: How the MP Batter Shone Against Idol Rohit Sharma

Akshat Raghuwanshi

Akshat Raghuwanshi made his IPL 2026 debut for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) against the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium. After losing the toss, LSG captain Rishabh Pant handed the maiden cap to the sought-after middle-order Madhya Pradesh batter, providing him with a massive stage to showcase his talent.

Domestic Dominance Leading to the IPL 2026 Debut

Raghuwanshi’s journey to the Lucknow Super Giants IPL 2026 squad follows his sensational performances in domestic circuits. Purchased for Rs 2.2 crore in the previous auction, Raghuwanshi had emerged as a highly sought-after prospect after his exploits in the Madhya Pradesh League in 2025. During that tournament, he amassed 239 runs in just four matches at a staggering strike rate of 177.04, which included a brilliant 115 off 56 deliveries.

His cricket journey began early, at the age of three in Gwalior under the guidance of his father. Raghuwanshi captained Madhya Pradesh's U-19 side in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy and announced his red-ball presence with a century on his Ranji Trophy debut against Meghalaya.

A Special Night at the Wankhede Stadium

The clash between MI and LSG became extra special for the young cricketer as he got the opportunity to play his maiden game against his idol, Rohit Sharma. While LSG has struggled at the bottom of the league table and faced batting concerns, introducing an aggressive and fearless youngster like Raghuwanshi gave the team a fresh approach.

LSG also made notable changes by bringing in Australian wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis (who replaced Mukul). Inglis had a short-lived outing, scoring 13 runs off just five deliveries before getting dismissed.
