Aizawl: The NITI Aayog has inaugurated the Mizoram Chapter of the Women Entrepreneurship Platform (WEP), marking it as the first initiative of its kind in the northeastern region aimed at enhancing women’s entrepreneurship, as reported by officials. During a state workshop focused on women-led development through entrepreneurship.
Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma expressed his appreciation to NITI Aayog for designating the state as the inaugural location for a WEP chapter in the northeast. He noted that the attendance of NITI Aayog Member V.K. Paul at the event serves as a source of motivation for all participants, stating, “we firmly believe it would yield positive outcomes.”
The Chief Minister highlighted the industrious nature and capabilities of women in Mizoram, who play a crucial role in the state’s economic advancement. He mentioned the state’s earlier launch of the ‘Bana Kaih’ (Handholding) scheme to support young and aspiring entrepreneurs, which is currently in its pilot phase with 517 selected progress partners, including 140 women, representing 27 percent. He expressed hope that more women would benefit from this initiative and indicated ongoing collaboration with NITI Aayog on the Bana Kaih scheme and other related programs.
Additionally, he acknowledged Labour, Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar for spearheading the event. NITI Aayog member Paul commended the entrepreneurial spirit and financial independence of women in Mizoram, asserting that the WEP, launched by the Chief Minister on Thursday, would be a significant facilitator for women’s empowerment and economic development.
