BJP's A. Sharda Files Nomination for Manipur's Lone Rajya Sabha Seat

A. Sharda

Imphal, June 08 2026:  Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi, the President of BJP Manipur Pradesh, officially filed her nomination papers today for the state's single Rajya Sabha seat. Representing the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), Sharda submitted three sets of nomination documents to the Secretary of the Manipur Legislative Assembly.

A high-profile delegation accompanied her during the submission, including Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho, Naga People's Front (NPF) Manipur unit president Awangbow Newmai, and BJP advisor Dr. Rajdeep Roy. Several prominent MLAs, including Th. Biswajit, Ram Muivah, I. Nalini, and T. Robindro, were also present to show their support.

With today marking the final deadline for filing nominations, Sharda stands as the sole candidate to enter the fray, as opposition parties like the Congress opted not to field a candidate. Consequently, she is expected to be officially declared elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha following the formal scrutiny of nomination papers scheduled for June 9, 2026.

Speaking to the media after filing her papers, Sharda expressed her deep gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and the central BJP leadership for nominating her as the NDA candidate and trusting her to represent Manipur in the Parliament's Upper House.
