A group of Naga legislators from Manipur has urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to take immediate and decisive action against Kuki-Zo leaders and militant groups over a series of alleged attacks and killings involving Naga civilians.
In a letter to the Union Home Minister, the legislators described the situation in Manipur as “critical and volatile” and called for unbiased action to restore peace and prevent further escalation. They sought the arrest of Kuki-Zo leaders whom they alleged had claimed responsibility for the killing and dismemberment of six Naga men.
The legislators also demanded action against Thangboi Kipgen of the Kuki National Front-P (KNF-P), alleging that cadres of the group were involved in the killings. They further made allegations against Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen, claiming her office had links with the militant group. The allegations were made in the letter and have not been independently established.
A key demand was the immediate abrogation of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with Kuki militant groups. The Naga legislators argued that repeated incidents of violence and alleged violations had raised serious questions about the effectiveness of the agreement.
They also referred to the August 27 ambush on the Imphal-Tamei Road, in which four Naga civilians were killed, along with earlier incidents at TM Kasom and Langka village.
The legislators warned that continued inaction could make it increasingly difficult for them to justify their support for the state government. They appealed to the Centre to ensure accountability, protect civilians and take concrete steps towards restoring lasting peace in Manipur.
