The Imphal Ring Road project is moving closer to the construction stage as land acquisition is almost complete, Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh informed the state Legislative Assembly on September 7.
Responding to a calling attention motion raised by Opposition MLA K. Meghachandra Singh, the Chief Minister said only one stretch of land in Imphal East district remains to be acquired. The pending portion is located in the Khurai Ipum Pat area. Once the acquisition is completed, construction activities are expected to accelerate.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB)-funded project had faced delays because of lengthy land acquisition procedures and law-and-order challenges in the state. According to the Chief Minister, the government has already disbursed Rs 105 crore as land compensation, while another Rs 60 crore is scheduled for immediate release.
The tendering process for the project has also been completed in accordance with ADB guidelines and necessary approvals. The state government has so far contributed Rs 189 crore as its share towards the civil works component.
To ensure smooth implementation, officials of the State Public Works Department held discussions with ADB representatives in August to finalise operational arrangements for the remaining stages.
The completion of the Imphal Ring Road is expected to improve connectivity around the capital and support smoother traffic movement.
