Commonwealth Games 2026 gold medallist Saikhom Mirabai Chanu received a cash award of ₹30 lakh from Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya during a felicitation ceremony held on Monday for India's medal-winning weightlifting contingent.


Mirabai created history at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games by becoming the first Indian weightlifter to win three consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medals. Her outstanding performance was the highlight of India's successful weightlifting campaign.

During the ceremony, Mandaviya honoured all the Indian medallists. Gold medallist Mirabai Chanu was presented with ₹30 lakh, while each silver medallist received ₹20 lakh and the bronze medallist was awarded ₹10 lakh in recognition of their achievements.

India wrapped up its weightlifting campaign with an impressive haul of eight medals across 11 weight categories, including one gold, six silver and one bronze. The Indian lifters also established several Commonwealth Games and Commonwealth records, underlining the country's growing strength in the sport.
