Imphal, October 21, 2026: A team of senior officials from the Election Commission of India (ECI) is in Manipur to assess preparations for the upcoming Assembly elections, which are expected to take place in early 2027.
The review is part of the Commission’s preparations for elections in five states — Manipur, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Goa — ahead of the announcement of the election schedule.
The visiting teams, led by Senior Deputy Election Commissioners, are examining the readiness of the poll-bound states to ensure that necessary arrangements are in place before the electoral process begins.
The Commission has already conducted a review visit to Uttarakhand, while its visit to Punjab is scheduled for October 28. The dates for visits to Goa are being rescheduled, and the schedule for the team’s visit to Uttar Pradesh has not yet been announced.
The terms of the Legislative Assemblies in Manipur, Goa, Punjab and Uttarakhand are due to conclude at different times in March 2027. The term of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly ends on May 22, 2027.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission has announced the annual Special Summary Revision of electoral rolls in 17 states and Union Territories. In its communication to the respective Chief Electoral Officers, the Commission indicated that elections in the five poll-bound states are due early next year.
The revision of electoral rolls is currently underway, with the final voter lists scheduled for publication on January 4.
The ongoing review in Manipur marks a key step in the Election Commission’s preparations for the next Assembly elections. Further assessments are expected before the Commission finalises and announces the election timetable.
