Imphal 2 Sept 2026: Security forces have made a major breakthrough against drug trafficking in Manipur’s Jiribam district, seizing brown sugar valued at approximately ₹80 crore during a joint operation.
The operation was carried out by the Assam Rifles, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Jiribam Police at Makha Basti along JT Road. Acting on intelligence inputs, the joint team conducted a coordinated operation and recovered 10.891 kg of suspected brown sugar from the area.
One person was apprehended in connection with the seizure. Authorities also recovered Indian currency notes and a mobile handset from the suspect, according to information released following the operation.
The seizure is being viewed as a significant success in the ongoing efforts by security agencies to prevent the movement and distribution of illegal narcotics in the region. Jiribam’s location and road connectivity make it an important area for security monitoring.
The latest action also comes amid intensified anti-narcotics operations in Manipur. Recent enforcement efforts have resulted in several major drug seizures, reflecting the continued focus of security forces on disrupting trafficking networks.
Authorities are expected to conduct further investigation to determine the source of the seized substance and identify other individuals who may be connected to the suspected trafficking operation.
