Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Sunday stressed that building a drug-free youth population is essential to achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, urging young people to stay away from substance abuse and contribute to the nation's development. He made the remarks while participating in the launch of the nationwide 'Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan' through a virtual programme in Imphal.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that the country's progress depends on a healthy, disciplined, and empowered younger generation. He called on students, parents, teachers, civil society organisations, and government agencies to work together to eliminate drug abuse and create a safer future for the youth of Manipur.

Khemchand Singh highlighted that drug addiction not only destroys individual lives but also weakens families and hampers the overall development of society. He reiterated his government's commitment to intensifying anti-drug measures through awareness campaigns, rehabilitation programmes, and strict enforcement against drug trafficking networks operating in the state.

The Chief Minister also appealed to educational institutions and community leaders to actively participate in spreading awareness about the harmful effects of narcotics. He said collective efforts from every section of society are necessary to protect the younger generation from falling into the trap of drug abuse.

The nationwide campaign was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the aim of mobilising youth across the country to fight substance abuse and promote a healthy lifestyle. During the launch, the Prime Minister emphasised that physically and mentally fit young people are the foundation of a developed India and urged citizens to make the country drug-free.

Manipur has been strengthening its anti-drug initiatives under the state's "War on Drugs" campaign, with authorities continuing to crack down on narcotics trafficking and encouraging community participation in prevention efforts. The Chief Minister reaffirmed that a drug-free Manipur would play a vital role in realising the national goal of Viksit Bharat 2047.
