Imphal: In a significant move aimed at restoring normalcy and improving connectivity, Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has announced the immediate reopening of the state’s National Highways for free movement of people from all communities. The government has also decided to resume the Imphal-Dimapur bus service.

The announcement was made on Saturday during the Chief Minister’s visit to Kangpokpi district headquarters. Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen and Saitu MLA Haokholet Kipgen were also present during the programme.
The reopening of the highways is being viewed as an important step towards rebuilding public confidence and strengthening connectivity between different parts of Manipur. The Imphal-Dimapur bus service is expected to provide an additional transport link for residents and help people travel more easily between Manipur and neighbouring Nagaland.
During his visit, Khemchand Singh met community leaders as part of the government’s ongoing peace-building and reconciliation efforts. He appealed to people from all communities to develop mutual trust and support one another for the progress of the state.
The Chief Minister said Manipur has a long history in which different communities have contributed to protecting and shaping the state. He stressed that every crisis has a solution and urged people to move beyond divisions and work towards peace and development.
The government also announced several development initiatives for Kangpokpi. These include upgrading the district hospital to a 100-bed facility with a CT scan unit, establishing Primary Health Centres at Motbung and T. Waichong, and upgrading the Community Health Centre at Saikul. Plans were also announced for flood-control infrastructure, new sports facilities, a convention hall-cum-guest house and a computerised examination centre.
Healthcare facilities were strengthened during the visit with the inauguration of a dialysis unit and district blood storage facility. Ambulances were also handed over to the district health authorities.
Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen described the occasion as historic and said lasting peace would require mutual love, trust and equal development in both the hills and valley.
The reopening of highways and restoration of the Imphal-Dimapur bus service mark an important effort to improve mobility, reconnect communities and support Manipur’s return towards normal life.
