Two Naga civilians were killed after unidentified armed individuals opened fire at Kailenjang village in Manipur’s Senapati district on Saturday, September 26, 2026, police officials said. The incident took place at around 2:45 pm, according to authorities.

The deceased were identified as Rocky, a resident of Mao Chaowainamai village, and Kumar, from Poumai Laii Shirafii, both in Senapati district. Police have not yet established the identities or motives of the attackers, and the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.

The latest killings came a day after four Tangkhul Naga civilians were found dead at Pilong village in Kamjong district, close to the India-Myanmar border. Police had said the four victims were allegedly attacked by armed individuals, with the involvement of militants from across the border being suspected but not officially confirmed.

The Kailenjang incident also occurred only hours after the United Naga Council (UNC) announced the suspension of its indefinite economic blockade on national highways across Manipur. The blockade, which began on May 17, had been linked to demands concerning the alleged abduction and subsequent recovery of six Naga civilians

According to the UNC, the suspension of the blockade would take effect from 6 pm on September 26 following an agreement reached during tripartite discussions involving the governments of Manipur and India and the UNC in Guwahati.

The back-to-back incidents have heightened concern over civilian security in Naga-inhabited areas of Manipur. Authorities are expected to investigate the latest attack and determine those responsible.
