The United Naga Council (UNC) has announced the suspension of its ongoing economic blockade in Manipur from 6 pm on September 26, 2026, following an agreement reached during tripartite talks in Guwahati.

The discussions involved representatives of the Government of Manipur, the Government of India and the UNC. Following the meeting, the Naga apex body issued a statement announcing that the blockade would be suspended with effect from 6 pm on Saturday.

The UNC said the decision followed the understanding reached during the tripartite discussions held in Guwahati. The council also expressed appreciation to people and organisations that extended cooperation and solidarity during the course of the agitation.

The economic blockade had affected the movement of vehicles and supplies along important routes in Manipur, with concerns over the availability and transportation of essential commodities in several areas.

The suspension comes amid heightened tensions in the state following recent incidents of violence involving civilians in Naga-inhabited areas. The latest developments have added to concerns over security and the movement of essential goods.

The tripartite talks are part of ongoing efforts to address issues raised by the UNC and facilitate dialogue between the Naga body and the governments concerned. The council’s decision to suspend the blockade temporarily opens the way for normal movement along the affected routes.

The statement announcing the suspension was issued by UNC president Ng Lorho. The council has not indicated that the issues behind the agitation have been permanently resolved, but the suspension marks a temporary easing of the economic disruption.

Further developments will depend on the implementation of the understanding reached during the Guwahati talks and subsequent discussions among the parties involved.
